City, County seminar Mar. 16 examines early learning role

The City of Tacoma’s Child Care Resource and Referral program joins the Pierce County Library and the Puget Sound Educational Service District in inviting community members to a March 16 presentation called “The Role of Early Leaning in Closing the Achievement Gap.”

Pierce County Linkages would like to invite all child care providers, early childhood educators, parents, teachers, and community members to the Pierce County wide event. The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon on March 16 at the Pierce County Library Administration Building, 3005 112th St. E. Participants will be given the opportunity to meet with individuals in their school district who are working to create positive early childhood transitions for young children in their communities.

Pierce County Linkages is a county-wide effort that brings together school districts, child care providers, parents and other community members to create connections between those working with young children before they enter school and the kindergarten through 12th grade educational system. By creating these connections it is believed that early learning providers can begin to align children’s pre-kindergarten experiences with kindergarten expectations. Through these partnerships each district team identifies their own needs and goals that will help ease the transition to kindergarten. District groups involved with this program obtain resources and support through partnership with the City of Tacoma’s Child Care Resource and Referral program in the Human Rights and Human Services Department, the Puget Sound Educational District and the Pierce County Library.
