The City of Tacoma is asking local artists to participate in an anonymous online survey to help shape the development of more live/work artist spaces and lofts throughout the city. The survey, which is available online here, focuses on questions related to artists’ current living and working accommodations, as well as any possible desire for new accommodations.
This is the latest City Hall effort to explore live/work artist spaces. Next month, representatives of Artspace, a national non-profit arts developer, will be in town to assess the feasibility of developing an artist live/work community in Tacoma. A public meeting to learn more about Artspace and the potential for live/work lofts and arts development will be held on Thurs., May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Tacoma Municipal Building, 738 St. Helens, in downtown Tacoma.
According to city officials, artist live/work spaces provide affordable housing opportunities for creative entrepreneurs, and become centers for innovation and synergy that often transform neighborhoods and maintain the heartbeat of community.
