Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma and the City Council will honor four individuals and four groups for outstanding volunteer service at the 16th annual City of Destiny Awards.
The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, at Theatre on the Square, 915 Broadway.
City Council members will present awards to winners the Citizens’ Recognition Committee selected from 50 nominations.
This year’s individual honorees are Valarie Osborne (Adult Leadership), Andrew Klein (Youth Leadership), Myrtle Appling (Adult Sustained Service) and Thu Truong (Youth Sustained Service).
Group honorees include Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity (Neighborhood or Community Group), Tucci & Sons, Inc. (Corporations, Business or Entrepreneur), Willie Adams and Mike Chambers (Employee or Union Group) and the Pacific Lutheran University football team (Young Adult Group).
Winners will receive a colorful glass sculpture crafted by students in the Hilltop Artists In Residence Program.
