City may grant Albers Mill loan
Council will consider making a $1.1 million float loan to Albers Mill, LLC from the Citys Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. Albers will use the money to help buy the building and assist with the historic preservation costs. Council approval of the measure would amend the 2001 Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development. The City Council approved an amended purchase and sale agreement and designated Albers Brothers Mill as a historic landmark Aug. 13. The Council will take public comment before voting.
Neighborhoods to receive grants
If the council approves the Neighborhood Councils recommendations, Tacoma neighborhoods will receive grants for small innovative capital improvements for projects such as parks and playground improvements, murals and arts projects, plus another infusion of reallocated funds. Citizens who want to submit written comments may do so prior to the council meeting to: Juli Wilkerson, Director, Tacoma Economic Development Department, 747 Market St. Room 900, Tacoma, WA 98402. The Council also will take public comment before voting on the measure.
Council on Referendum 51, I-776
the Council will vote on separate resolutions to show their support for Referendum 51 and to reflect their opposition to Initiative 776. The council will take public comment before voting on each resolution.
Citizen initiative ballot issue
The council will take public testimony and vote on a resolution that will transmit a citizen initiative ballot measure to the Pierce County Auditor for the Nov. 5 general election. The Tacoma Municipal Code currently prohibits sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination in employment, housing, lending and public accommodations. If the measure passes on Nov. 5, it will remove these prohibitions from this ordinance. The Pierce County Auditor verified the required number of signatures on the initiative petition to place the measure on the ballot.
Tacoma Mall area congestion
The council will vote on a proposed ordinance that would require commercial developers, whose projects would increase traffic above the current level, to make road improvements in the Tacoma Mall retail area.
Other business
Also on the agenda: Citizens can comment on HUDs Renewal Community development incentives, citizen appointees to various committees and a public hearing on the proposed sale of Tacoma Water property at South 19 and Meyer streets.
