Tacoma Historical Society has announced the opening of a new exhibit entitled “Shore Leave: Above the Tall Ships.” Curated by Tacoma historian Tom Stenger, this exhibit examines the ways in which Tacoma welcomed sailors to town during two eras — early in the 20th century and during the 1930’s and 1940’s. What did they see while they were in port? How did they spend their money? Where did they eat? What kind of entertainment and services did Tacoma provide? The exhibit features a collection of early 20th century landscapes, historic postcard images and a variety of artifacts. Tacoma Historical Society’s Exhibit Center & Gift Shop, located at 747 Broadway in downtown Tacoma, open Weds. through Sat., noon to 5 p.m.
