Members of the Tacoma City Council are scheduled to hear the first reading of two ordinances on Dec. 7 that could increase rates for Wastewater, Surface Water and Solid Waste services. The ordinances would amend the Municipal Code to increase rates and charges for Wastewater by 4.8 percent and Surface Water utilities by 5.4 percent for 2011-2012. The ordinance would also amend the Municipal Code to increase rates and charges for the Solid Waste utility by 2.8 percent in 2011 and 2012, but individual rate increases will vary from this average due to cost of service and volume-based residential rate adjustments.
