The World Trade Center Tacoma is providing an opportunity to showcase Pierce County youth during the third annual World Trade Center Association Day, held Friday, June 11.
To help celebrate the event, the World Trade Center Tacoma is inviting Pierce County high school students to submit their essay or art for the annual World Trade Center Association Day Art and Essay Contest. The topic of the contest is how to promote global peace and stability through trade. The event is sponsored by Columbia Bank and co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council, Pierce County Arts Commission and Tacoma Arts Commission.
Entries must be delivered or postmarked to the World Trade Center Tacoma no later than 4 p.m., on Friday, May 21.
Essays should be 750 words or less. Two-dimensional artwork must be between 8.5 inches by 11 inches and 11 inches by 17 inches and other artwork (clay, paper mache, etc.) must be able to fit into a 10 inch by 10 inch box.
The World Trade Center Tacoma will provide resources upon request to help inspire and engage students in their essay or artwork.
Along with over 300 active World Trade Centers in 91 countries around the world, the World Trade Center Tacoma will take part in World Trade Center Association Day. Each World Trade Center will commemorate the occasion with activities, speakers, lunch, contests, awards and/or other events that not only highlight their countrys culture, but also promote the World Trade Center Association ideal of promoting worldwide peace and stability via trade.
The top 15 entries from each category – essay and art – will be displayed at the World Trade Center Tacoma.
Prominent leaders in the community, members of the Pierce County Arts Commission and the Tacoma Arts Commission will decide the winners.
The top three entries from each category will be notified by Thursday, June 3. First place awards will be presented to the recipients on World Trade Center Association Day.
First place recipients will receive a $75 cash prize and will have the opportunity to attend the World Trade Center Association Day luncheon. They will also be recognized in the World Trade Center Association Book of Honor 2004, in which the winners art and essay will be published along with a picture and personal biography.
Second place recipients will receive a $50 cash prize. Third place winners will receive a $25 cash prize.
