Time is running out for Medicare beneficiaries to sign-up for the new prescription drug program. Enrolling after the May 15 deadline may result in financial penalties.
The free Medicare Rx Sign-Up Day on April 29 will enable seniors to get impartial information on which of the available plans is best for them. Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care, SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors), and 16 area high schools are sponsoring the countywide event.
Beneficiaries, family members, and caregivers are asked to reserve a spot in advance by calling (253) 798-7376 or (800) 642-5769. Appointments for consultations will be available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A Medicare card and an up-to-date list of all prescription drugs should be brought to the consultation. People will receive a report listing the three most cost-effective and comprehensive plans available to them and they may enroll at that time or later.
Participating schools include Bellarmine Prep, Bethel, Bonney Lake, Curtis, Emerald Ridge, Gig Harbor, Graham-Kapowsin, Lakes, Lincoln, Orting, Peninsula, Spanaway Lake, Sumner, Washington, Wilson, and White River high schools.
