The Pierce County smoking ban is back on.
A state appeals court ruled Wednesday that the county can reinstitute its ban on smoking in public areas, including those exempted by state law, such as bars, bowling alleys and casinos.
Officials with the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health said they would begin enforcement immediately.
Business owners who violate the ban would be fined after a warning and could even lose their licenses, while individuals would pay $100 per incident.
The ban was imposed in January, but a Pierce County Superior Court judge overturned it after restaurant owners sued the county.
