“Another way of looking at this process is by organizational entity – Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County – Lead responsibility for:(a) designing and executing business recruiting program, and (b) for managing delivery of technical and financing assistance on initiatives to retain and expand existing primary sector business establishments. Shared leadership responsibility with Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce (CofC) in developing countywide economic development plan based on this report, Development Counsellors International report, and other community input. Support role to Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce in developing broad-based community support for economic development initiatives. Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce – Lead responsibility for: (a) identifying business climate problems that threaten the retention or expansion of existing primary sector business establishments, (b) coordinating resolution of these problems by responsible organizations, (c) identifying business climate issues that transcend individual establishments and lobbying for structural solutions to these issues; (d) promoting a more entrepreneurial environment throughout the County; and (e) developing broad-based community support for economic development initiatives. Shared leadership responsibility with Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County in developing countywide economic development plan based on this report, DCI report, and other community input.Support role to:(a) City of Tacoma and DCI, through its Media Center, in establishing image for Greater Tacoma.Port of Tacoma – Lead responsibility for:(a) providing one of the region’s primary economic engines – a world-class ocean cargo port, and (b) resolving transportation bottleneck problems that limit the Port’s efficient operation. Support role to:CofC and EDB in preparing regional economic development plan, and (b) EDB in recruiting new businesses to the Greater Tacoma area.City of Tacoma Department of Economic Development – Lead responsibility for:(a) managing Greater Tacoma image enhancement campaign, and (b) resolving and responding to business climate problems identified by primary business establishments located in the City of Tacoma as referred by the CofC. Shared responsibility with the EDB for:(a) preparing responses to prospect inquiries about sites within Tacoma referred by the EDB. Support role in:(a) developing countywide economic development plan based on this report, DCI report, and other community input; (b) participating in business recruiting activities organized and managed by EDB.Pierce County Government – Lead responsibility for: (a) resolving and responding to business climate problems identified by primary business establishments located in unincorporated areas of the County, as referred by the CofC. Shared responsibility with the EDB for:(a) preparing responses to prospect inquiries about sites within unincorporated areas of the County referred by the EDB. Support role in:(a) developing countywide economic development plan based on this report, DCI report, and other community input; (b) participating in business recruiting activities organized and managed by EDB.Local Chambers of Commerce Within Pierce County – Shared responsibility with local governments in their service area for: (a) resolving and responding to business climate problems identified by primary business establishments located in their service areas as referred by the Tacoma-Pierce Co. CofC. Spport role in:(a) developing countywide economic development plan based on this report, DCI report, and other community input; (b) assisting the EDB in preparing responses to prospect inquiries about sites within their service area.Other Municipal Governments in Pierce County – Shared responsibility with local chambers of commerce for:(a) resolving and responding to business climate problems identified by primary business establishments located in their service areas as referred by the Tacoma-Pierce Co.
