“The Martin Luther King, Jr. Housing Development Association Board of Directors has appointed Felix A. Flannigan as the associations new executive director. The association was created in 1990 by the former executive director, Alberta J. Canada. Canada held the executive director position until her death in April. Since that time the board has been conducting a national search to fill the position. We knew Alberta left a huge legacy to fulfill, and that she would be pleased to see Mr. Flannigan take over the leadership of this agency, said Bruce Caldwell, Chairman of the Board. The decision was unanimous and we are anxiously awaiting his arrival.Flannigan comes to the association from the Tacoma Housing Authority where he held the position of director of revitalization. In that capacity, he administered an annual budget of approximately $5 million to revitalize public housing in Tacoma. He is credited with development of the Salishan Redevelopment Master Plan.Flannigan was also successful in negotiating with the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC to reconsider plans to demolish 182 units of public housing in Tacoma known as Hillside Terrace. Before working for THA, Flannigan worked at the association for three years under the tutelage of Canada. During that period, he headed the agencys construction and maintenance efforts.Im honored to be able to lead this agency, and intend to support its progress in the community, Flannigan said.”
