Law enforcement officers from Pierce County will be in Fife on Saturday for the monthly DUI and traffic safety emphasis patrol.
This months emphasis is dedicated to Courtnie Ann Kendall, 19, who was killed by a drunk driver Nov. 17, 2000, on Canyon Road East. An on-coming car that crossed into her lane hit Kendall, who was driving a friend home. The impaired driver had a .16 percent blood alcohol concentration and was on probation for a prior DUI. The drivers trial is scheduled to begin next week.
The monthly emphasis patrols are coordinated by the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI Task Force, and supported by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
