The Port of Tacoma has received two awards from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a Chicago-based professional association of finance officers in the United States and Canada.
The GFOA recently presented the Port with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2006 Budget Document. Previously, the GFOA awarded the Port the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Port’s 2004 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Both documents can be found online at the Port of Tacoma website ( http://www.portoftacoma.com ) in the “Investor Relations” section.
“These awards are much more than something to simply hang on a wall,” said Port of Tacoma Commission President Connie Bacon. “For the people of Pierce County, they are acknowledgements of the way our Port does business with sound financial principles, with a strong focus on meeting the growth needs of our customers and with the objective of building a stronger economy for our region.”
Port of Tacoma Senior Director of Finance and Administration Jeff Smith noted the hard work and dedication of his staff. “These awards are a credit to their professionalism and commitment to excellence,” he said.
