The first phase of pile driving at Washington United Terminals (WUT) was completed Feb. 10. The 29 piles completed in this phase allow for construction of the breasting and mooring dolphins, which will support the Blair dock operation while the new wharf is extended. The remaining pile driving work will be completed in the October 2010 to January 2011 time frame. The pile driving is part of a $31 million, 600-foot wharf extension at WUT. The work is being done by Manson Construction. During the 18-month project, it is estimated about 30 full-time construction jobs will be created. Hyundai and MOL ships call at the wharf, which is currently 2,000 feet long. Learn more about the project by visiting http://www.portoftacoma.com/Page.aspx?nid=440 .
