Ken Madsen is poised to announce his candidacy for Pierce County Assessor- Treasurer.
This position demands the kind of broad-based, experienced leadership skills that I’ve developed in my years of public service. This office is no place for on-the-job training, Madsen said.
Madsen, who owns a farm in Roy, will hit the campaign trail March 25 with a campaign kick-off reception hosted by Harold Moss, Pierce County Council Chair. The reception will be held at Tacomas Landmark Convention Center from 6 p.m. to 8p.m.
In less than one full term as Assessor-Treasurer, Madsen has:
– reduced the Assessor-Treasurer’s annual budget by $500,000;
– eliminated staff overtime;
– conducted a comprehensive performance audit;
– increased employee productivity and accountability; and
– introduced a state-of-the-art compu-ter system that ensures equity and accuracy in appraisals.
Madsen has also enhanced online Web services and public awareness regarding property taxes.
Madsen won the 2003 National Association of County Officials Achievement Award for promoting public awareness and education.
Madsens most recent advancement is the implementation of the new credit card and e-check payment system for 2004 property taxes.
Madsen is a former Green Beret and military advisor in Southeast Asia.
He is a member of several civic organizations including the VFW, City Club, Kiwanis, the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary.
