Memorial honors WSDOT's fallen workers

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) honored its employees killed in work zone-related activities during a ceremony April 24 in the Transportation Building on the Capitol Campus in Olympia. Since 1950, WSDOT has lost 59 employees. The event was was part of National Work Zone Awarness Week, which aims to recognize all roadway workers and drive home the necessity of work zone safety. A display of safety vests, hard hats, and white roses (top left) honors fallen WSDOT workers. Belle Williams (top right) spoke about the loss of her husband Sam Williams as WSDOT Secretary Paula Hammond looked on.
