MultiCare Health System announced today it will purchase the Frances Hall Apartments in order to increase the hospital services it provides in Tacoma.
The four-story brick building, located at 402 S. I St., sits near MultiCare’s sprawling footprint near Wright Park, and will be renovated to house parents and families of hospitalized infants at Tacoma General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and hospitalized children at Mary Bridge Childrens Hospital.
The Frances Hall building was constructed in the 1930s, houses 47 apartment units, and totals 30,000 square feet.
The sale is expected to be completed at the end of this month.
According to a statement released by MultiCare, the residents of Frances Hall have month-to-month rental agreements. They may remain in the building for up to six months rent-free and, upon vacating, will have their entire security deposits returned.
Over the years, MultiCare has been raising money to establish additional apartments for parents near Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospitals. MultiCare currently operates 12 such apartments nearby, but the need for more units is growing exponentially, said spokesman Todd Kelley.
