Museum of Glass (MOG) jointly with the staff and trustees of The Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) are pleased to announce that Susan J. Warner has accepted the Executive Director role at VCA.
Ms. Warner has over thirty years of management, arts administration and museum education experience, with more than half her career spent at the world-renowned Museum of Glass. She was hired prior to the opening of the Museum to help turn the vision of an entity focused on glass into a reality. Before joining MOG, Ms. Warner held positions at The Seattle Children’s Museum, The State Capital Museum, and the Dayton Art Institute.
“Susan’s contributions to the success of Museum of Glass are vast,” says Debbie Lenk, Executive Director. “Her rich knowledge of the historic and contemporary glass movements will be difficult to replace. Susan’s efforts have helped shape the Museum into an institution serving local, national, and international audiences, and into an economic pillar in the growth of Tacoma’s downtown area.”
Denise Katz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of VCA also praises Ms. Warner. “After conducting an incredibly thorough search that brought us candidates from across our region and beyond, we are simply thrilled that Susan will be joining us,” says Katz. “Her vision, energy, commitment, and sense of community will be a wonderful fit for our organization and our island home.”
“The position at Vashon Center for the Arts is an exciting opportunity for me to contribute to projects the likes of which I have not yet encountered in my career,” says Ms. Warner. “What VCA has done these past few years is nothing short of amazing. I am extremely privileged to step into this position and continue building on the legacy created by so many here on the island. The quality of the performing arts experiences, gallery exhibits, education and instruction is just exceptional.”
In the near term, Ms. Warner will be available to Museum of Glass to consult on special exhibitions and projects. Ultimately, the Museum will be conducting a national search for Ms. Warner’s replacement.
