The City of Gig Harbor will officially cut the ribbon on its new Maritime Pier on Mon., Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m.
The ribbon-cutting marks a significant accomplishment for the city, and follows decades of discussions to build a pier for Gig Harbor’s commercial fishing fleet, which includes approximately 40 active vessels.
The new drive-aboard pier is 156 feet plus ramp and float and will provide access for loading and unloading for the fishing fleet, transient moorage and viewing, and water access for the public. The City of Gig Harbor contributed $1.6 million dollars to the project. In addition, $378,000 in state funding was appropriated for the pier. The Gig Harbor Commercial Fishing Club donated $50,000.
The new pier is just one piece of an on-going effort to preserve the heritage and culture of the community with facilities, parks, and historic properties throughout the historic waterfront.
