After years of preparation, The Northwest Seaport Alliance began implementing the Clean Truck Program requirements this month. Effective Jan. 1, only trucks newer than 2007 or equipped with a certified retrofit can call upon our international container terminals.
In addition to the cleaner-burning trucks, the NWSA requires all trucks to have RFID tags to enter the terminals, improving operational efficiency.
For truck drivers who have not met the Clean Truck Program requirements, the Clean Truck financing program—including a $6,000 scrapping bonus per eligible truck—will be available through January.
We appreciate the partnership and hard work of everyone involved in this effort. Together, we can improve local air quality, maintain port efficiency and ensure the gateway remains an economic engine for our entire region.
