Mayor Bill Baarsma will kick off the festivities at a ribbon cutting ceremony April 22 at 12:30 p.m. for the new Pacific Square at South 17th Street and Pacific Avenue. The ceremony will commence at the end of the Daffodil Parade.
The ribbon cutting concludes a $4.1 million downtown redevelopment project that was funded with Public Works Trust Funds as well as money from Sound Transit, state grants and City Open Space funds.
The ceremony marks the opening of Tacomas first downtown public square. Pacific Sqaure includes a terraced amphitheater, a cascading water feature with large reflecting pools, and wide stairs and ramps that connect Pacific Avenue to Commerce Street. The public gathering space also features a large grassy area to the west of the tracks for the Link Light Rail.
