A $5.1 million lobby renovation inside the historic Pantages Theater begins next week when city leaders, architects, and local residents break ground during a ceremony May 23 at 10:30 a.m.

Funding for the improvements comes from the City of Tacoma, which provided $1.3 million, and the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, which raised $3.8 million from foundations, corporations, and individuals.

When renovations are completed in October, the size of the lobby will double to approximately 3,100-square-feet, and will include a box office, grand staircase, and concession stand. Additionally, improvements to restrooms and ceilings are also part of the plans.
