Three returning members and one new member of the Pierce County Council will formally begin their terms on Tues., Jan. 13, with a swearing-in ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers.

Councilmembers Dick Muri (District 6), Roger Bush (District 3) and Timothy M. Farrell (District 4) were each re-elected in November to a second four-year term. Councilmember-elect Joyce McDonald (District 2) succeeds term-limited Councilmember Calvin Goings.

At the council’s regular 3 p.m. meeting later that day, councilmembers will choose a chair, vice chair and executive pro tempore for 2009. The council chair presides at all regular council meetings, the vice chair presides in the absence of the chair, and the executive pro tempore is a councilmember selected to perform some of the county executive’s duties in the event of the executive’s absence or temporary disability.

The council meets on the 10th floor of the County-City Building, 930 Tacoma Ave. S., Rm. 1045, in Tacoma. All council meetings are televised live on C-RCC (channel 22 or 78), streamed live on the channel’s Web site at http://www.crcctv.org , and replayed on the channel six times per week.
