Gov. Chris Gregoire will join County Executive John Ladenburg and Council Chair Terry Lee July 29 for the groundbreaking ceremony that kicks off the North Dock Overpass project at Chambers Creek Properties. The public is invited to attend the event starting at 1 p.m. at Central Meadow.
The ceremony, during which Central Meadow will be dedicated, marks the start of a new phase in the reclamation and development of the 930-acre Chambers Creek Properties.
The overpass will take walkers from the southwest corner of Central Meadow over the BNSF tracks to the beach. Staircases will give walkers access to the beach and the first of three planned off-leash areas. When it is completed in 2010, the overpass will provide public access to the west-exposure beach.
Those who attend will also have the opportunity to explore Central Meadow before it officially opens to the public Aug. 10. Parking for the event is at the Central Meadow parking lot, which can be accessed from Grandview Drive at the entrance to Chambers Bay golf course, 6320 Grandview Drive W., University Place.
The Public Works and Utilities-Sewer Utility partnered with the State of Washington to fund the $3 million project.
