The public is invited to attend an open house and a public hearing to comment on whether Pierce Transit should make Route 63 a regular route. The open house is on Thursday, May 5 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Center at Norpoint, Cascade Hall, 4818 Nassau Avenue NE, Tacoma. The public hearing will take place as part of the Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners’ meeting on Monday, May 9 beginning at 4 p.m. in the Pierce Transit Rainier Conference Room, 3720 – 96th Street SW, Lakewood.
Route 63 has been a pilot project to test demand for peak-time express service between Northeast Tacoma and downtown Tacoma. This has been the first time since 2011 Pierce Transit has been able to offer direct service between NE Tacoma and downtown. Ridership has been steadily growing on the route since it was introduced last September. Among other benefits, the route has given NE Tacoma residents a quick and easy way to get downtown and back, with three morning peak-time trips into downtown, and three late afternoon/early evening peak-time trips back to NE Tacoma.

The open house at Norpoint is served by King County Metro’s route 903. The hearing at the Pierce Transit Training Center is served by local Pierce Transit bus routes 48 and 300. Riders may find times for those routes by calling 253.581.8000. Registered SHUTTLE customers may arrange transportation to and from the open house and/or hearing by calling SHUTTLE at 253.581.8000 (option 2) from one to five days in advance of the event. An interpreter for the hearing impaired will be provided upon request with a minimum notice of five days.
