The Port of Tacoma, under CEO John Wolfe’s signing authority, extended the feasibility period of Puget Sound Energy’s lease by two months on Friday, Sept. 2.
Puget Sound Energy proposes to build a liquefied natural gas facility at the Port of Tacoma to support TOTE Maritime Alaska’s plan to retrofit its ships to use the cleaner burning fuel, as well as provide natural gas for household use during peak demand periods.
Port commissioners authorized the lease with Puget Sound Energy on Aug. 21, 2014. The two-year feasibility period originally ended Aug. 31. This amendment extends it to Oct. 31, providing additional time for Puget Sound Energy to secure permits before construction begins.
The Sept. 15 commission meeting will include a lease update. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
