Port of Tacoma offering Community Economic Development Investment Fund grants

The Port of Tacoma is accepting applications for its Community Economic Development Investment Fund program, which supports Pierce County non-profit organizations and municipal agencies that bring economic development investments to the county.

With an annual budget of $35,000, the fund prioritizes investments that create long-term jobs through freight infrastructure projects, attract tourists to Pierce County, and promote international trade and business retention or recruitment.

Organizations that received funding in 2015 include the Foss Waterway Development Authority for the 2017 Festival of Sail, a family maritime event with regional, state, and national significance; the Mt. Rainier Visitor Association to launch the Mt. Rainier Concert Series, supporting the association’s focus on creating a stable year-round economic climate through tourism; and the Tacoma Waterfront Association to help the organization build a new Web site to bring visitors to Tacoma’s waterfront using interactive maps and an events calendar.

Applications and more information are available online here. Applications are due by Fri., Feb. 5. Grant recipients will be selected by Fri., Feb. 26.
