Purple lights in October will raise domestic violence awareness

The Commission Against Domestic Violence hopes to see purple porch lights shining throughout Tacoma and Pierce County next month. The commission is promoting Purple Light Nights as a way citizens can show support for the commission’s efforts to eliminate domestic violence.

“Everyone deserves to be safe, and domestic violence has no place in our community,” said Pam Dittman, the commission’s coordinator. “Our goal is to have a purple light shining on every front porch or a string of purple lights hanging at every business.”

Purple lights can be purchased by contacting the commission at pccadv@tpchd.org or (253) 798-7660. PLN is both a commission fundraiser and awareness campaign and highlights the local Domestic Violence Awareness Month observance.

Special events are scheduled throughout October including a “Ribbon Tying” thank you to law enforcement from 12 to 1 p.m. Fri., Oct. 3 in Tollefson Plaza, 17th and Pacific Avenue. Additional information is available at http://www.communities.southsound.com/main.wsi?group_id=34 .
