Tacoma City Council is scheduled to vote next week on a resolution that would update the countywide planning policies for Pierce County by adding a regional growth center within University Place and adding manufacturing/industrial centers in Sumner, Pacific, and South Tacoma.
According to the resolution, the three proposed amendments were approved by the Pierce County Regional Council on April 21, 2011, and by Pierce County Council on Aug. 9, 2011. In order for these three amendments to go into effect they must be ratified by 60 percent of the affected jurisdictions in Pierce County — jurisdictions that represent 75 percent of the population. The county-wide planning policies are required by the Growth Management Act and are developed collaboratively by Pierce County and the towns and cities within the county.
Tacoma City Council is scheduled to vote on the resolution during its meeting on Tues., May 15 at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers on the first floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building, located 747 Market Street. Meetings are streamed live online at http://www.tvtacoma.com and broadcast live on TV Tacoma. For more information, visit http://www.cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?nid=256 .
