Run – or walk – to this Sunday's Bank to Bay races

KeyBank and the City of Tacoma will host the fourth annual Bank to Bay 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk and 1K Kids’ Run this Sunday, Sept. 7, in downtown Tacoma.

The 1K Kids’ Run begins at 9 a.m., followed by the 10K Run at 9:20 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk at 9:50 a.m. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.

For the fourth consecutive year, Bank to Bay will provide $10,000 to the Tacoma Public Schools Help-A-Student Fund, which furnishes necessities such as school supplies, clothing and shoes to students.

“Bank to Bay is a wonderful way for Key to support our local community by bringing together families and friends to help promote this very worthy cause,” said Jim Washam, president of KeyBank’s South Puget Sound District.

Bank to Bay was an idea developed when KeyBank and the city made a pact in 2000 to promote downtown Tacoma. Additional partners include the Dimmer Family Foundation, the Emerald Queen Casino and Night Club, Regence Blue Shield, The News Tribune, KJR 95.7 FM and TUI Consulting.

“We are delighted to partner with Key for the fourth year to sponsor a community event that truly highlights all of the positive revitalization efforts continuing to take place in our downtown core,” said City Manager James Walton.

Support for Bank to Bay has grown each year. Last year’s event was a huge success, and this year KeyBank and Tacoma are forecasting a record number of participants.

The USA Track and Field certified course begins in the Museum District between South 15th and 17th streets on Pacific Avenue, and runs behind Old City Hall and along Schuster Parkway to Ruston Way.

Weather permitting, runners and walkers will be treated to gorgeous views as they traverse the route. The race course will be closed to traffic.
Runners, walkers, wheelchair athletes, kids, families and friends are all invited to take part in Bank to Bay. Registration is $20 for those who sign up by Sept. 5 and $25 the day of the race. The entry fee includes a Bank to Bay running shirt.
