Students from Mt. Tahoma High School have collaborated with Safe Streets Campaign, police and Tacoma Public Schools to help make their schools and neighborhoods safer.
On Feb. 5, the doors of Mt. Tahoma High School will be opened to residents from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to learn how community leaders and youth prevention professionals can bring solutions to stop drugs, gangs and violence.
Representatives from Safe Streets, Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) and the Tacoma Police Department (TPD) will be in attendance. TPS and TPD will jointly fund two school resource officers starting in February 2009 — one for Mt. Tahoma High School and one for Lincoln High School.
