Snow storm closes Pierce County offices early

Executive John W. Ladenburg ordered Pierce County government to close at 3 p.m. today to help the county’s 3,400 employees get home safely. The early closure affects all non-essential employees. Employees were reminded to drive cautiously and to take every precaution to be safe.

In other weather-related actions:

— Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park won’t open this evening due to the weather, Pierce County Parks and Recreation announced.

— Pierce County closed the Purdy Transfer Station at 1:30 this afternoon due to a build-up of ice on the driveways and customer receiving areas. This action was deemed necessary to protect customers and employees. The transfer station is located at 144th Street NW and 54th Avenue NW. It will reopen at 9 a.m. Friday, weather conditions permitting.
