Spaceworks Tacoma is accepting applications from Pacific Northwest artists and curators to host an exhibition in the 950 Gallery (formerly called Spaceworks Gallery). Spaceworks seeks applications from individuals or teams who:
* Have a proposal for a solo exhibition or group exhibition.
* Can fully activate the entire gallery space (~1,000 sq. ft.).
* Demonstrate experience as artist or curator with a developed proposal for an exhibit.
* Can lead the organization, installation, and promotion of an exhibit (with assistance from Spaceworks staff on each of these steps).
The 950 Gallery is part of Spaceworks Artscapes program and provides opportunities for six art exhibitions a year to contemporary artists and curators working in the Pacific Northwest.
“As a curator and artist, 950 Gallery has allowed me to express myself personally and politically, in an environment that felt safe and supportive” commented Asia Tail. “I can’t wait to see the new line up of shows for the coming year!”
Activating a longstanding vacant space, the gallery is operated by Spaceworks Tacoma. Past exhibits ranged from a solo show by a legendary animator Bruce Bickford, to a benefit art show for Standing Rock, to an exhibit of photography from a published book, “Hands at Work”, to contemporary Cambodian art. These destination-quality exhibits have brought in over 3,400 visitors from around the region, garnered 15 feature articles, and hosted 20 special events which included performances, speeches, and pop up markets.
“Our exhibits at the 950 Gallery have been a beautiful juggling act of Northwest culture,” states Gabriel Brown, Spaceworks Artscapes Coordinator. “The selection panel for this new batch of applications will no doubt have their work cut out for them.”
Any individual artist, curator, artist team, or curator team in the Pacific Northwest may apply. Past participants of Spaceworks’ programs may apply.
