State awarded $24M for renewable energy projects

The U.S. Department of Energy announced today that $24.3 million has been awarded to support energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Washington state. These awards were funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The awards come from nearly $204 million in Recovery Act funding awarded nationwide to support energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in 10 states.

Washington state will use Recovery Act funding through the State Energy Program to support the development of clean energy policy, leverage private additional financing of energy efficiency projects, and promote energy assessments in the agricultural sector. The goal is to achieve significant job creation, clean energy production, and energy savings across the state. If the state successfully implements the plan, itwill receive more than $30 million in additional funding, for a total of over $60 million.
