In honor of National Women’s History Month, women veterans and other job seekers are being encouraged to attend a career fair on March 10 in Tacoma.
Career counselors and employers who are looking to hire will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Veterans (AMVETS) Post #1. Â Admission is free and is open to the entire public.
Applicants should bring copies of their resume and arrive prepared to speak with recruitment specialists. Â Information will be available on veteran’s benefits, resume writing and training opportunities, including apprenticeships.
“Women veterans are returning from various places abroad with skills that are needed by today’s employers,” said Sal Cantu, veterans’ employment representative with WorkSource Pierce. “This career event is a great opportunity to match veterans with employers and training programs to improve their skills.”
Approximately 60 employers and training institutions will attend the fair, including Union Pacific, Comcast Cable, Madden Industries, West Port Shipyard, Pacific Northwest Ironworkers, Bank of America, Northwest Waste Management, Western Washington Masonry, Associated Petroleum Products Inc., Seattle Roofers, the Seattle, Tacoma and Los Angeles police departments, the U.S. Coast Guard and others. The career fair is sponsored by WorkSource Pierce and AMVETS Post #1.
