A rededication ceremony this morning marked completion of work by the Tacoma Housing Authority on an affordable apartment complex.
The rededication of Stewart Court (formerly Fircrest Court Apartments), at 3201 South Tyler St., in Tacoma, honors Willie C. Stewart, a board member of THA and the Tacoma School District.
Utilizing over $1.5 million in grants from the City of Tacoma and THA funds, 58 one- and two-bedroom apartment units were modernized at the Stewart Court development.
The work included the construction of a new 59th unit, a new managers office and extensive site improvements. Other improvements included a remodeled kitchen and bathrooms, new energy efficient appliances, windows and fixtures, as well as new paint, carpet, finishes and needed structural repairs.
Construction was completed on an accelerated timeline with each apartment building full modernized and returned to THA after only 45 days.
The Stewart Court Apartments provide safe, decent and affordable housing to low-income residents of Tacoma.
