At its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 3, Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health elected its leadership for 2010. Dick Muri was elected the board’s new chair, with Marilyn Strickland as vice chair. Muri represents District 6 on the Pierce County Council, serving Lakewood, Steilacoom, DuPont, Roy, McKenna, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and Anderson, McNeil and Ketron islands. In addition to serving on the Board of Health, Muri chairs the Performance Audit Committee and serves on the Community Development, Economic and Infrastructure & Development, Emergency Preparedness, and Public Safety & Human Services Standing Committees. Stickland is Mayor of Tacoma and also serves on the Government Performance and Finance Committee, the Public Safety and Human Services Committee and the Pierce County Regional Council. Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health governs the Health Department, meeting monthly to consider policies to safeguard and enhance the health of the communities of Pierce County. The Board of Health welcomes public attendance and participation in meetings, which occur the first Wednesday of each month, from 3 to 5 p.m., in the auditorium at 3629 South D Street, Tacoma.
