A free workshop to help artists and entertainers weave through the tax filing process is scheduled for March 25 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Public Library, Olympic Room, 1102 Tacoma Ave. So.
“Artists have to know their craft and also how to function in the business world, said Phillip Hill, chair of Tacoma Arts Commission, an event sponsor. We want artists to gain the skills they need to be as successful as possible in the marketplace. This workshop is one of the ways we can provide technical assistance to the arts community.”
This Washington Lawyers for the Arts session, presented by Neil Sussman, will include topics such as:
— What deductions can be claimed
— What tax forms to use and how to fill them out
— How to keep business and tax records in an organized manner
— How to minimize the chances of getting audited
Sussman is a Seattle attorney concentrating in art, entertainment and media law. A 1982 graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, Sussman received his undergraduate degree in business management from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and has had his own law practice for more than 23 years.
