Tacoma Community College 50th Anniversary celebration Sept. 17

Tacoma Community College will wrap up its 50th Anniversary celebration by opening its doors to the public in September and offering activities, demonstrations, a college history showcase, building tours, and a public dedication of the school’s new ambulance.

The celebration is the culmination of a series of events held this year to mark Tacoma Community College’s semicentennial.

In April, The Gallery at Tacoma Community College showcased a month-long exhibit featuring art presented by faculty and alumni (see “Art exhibit marks Tacoma Community College’s 50th Anniversary,” Tacoma Daily Index, March 23, 2015).

In January, Tacoma Community College released The Open Door: A History of Tacoma Community College, a narrative history e-book that shows how students, faculty, staff, and community leaders collaborated to create the college, which opened its doors on Sept. 13, 1965 (see “Tacoma Community College: E-book release party begins 50th Anniversary celebration,” Tacoma Daily Index, Jan. 14, 2015). The e-book and its author, Dale Coleman, were featured in the Tacoma Daily Index last year (see “History Maker: As TCC turns 50, one researcher will tell its story,” Tacoma Daily Index, Sept. 18, 2014″). The e-book is available online here.

Tacoma Community College’s 50th Anniversary celebration will be held on Thurs., Sept. 17, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., at Tacoma Community College, located at 6501 S. 19th., in Tacoma. More information about the event is available online here.
