Tacoma Fire Department rescue drill April 19

The Tacoma Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team will conduct a high-angle drill to rescue the mascot of the Hero to Hero program – a teddy bear, wearing firefighter gear – from the roof of the Tacoma Dome on April 19. The drill will begin at noon and last for several hours. The purpose of this drill is to raise awareness for the “Hero to Hero” program as well as maintain the skills of the Tacoma Fire Department’s technical rescue team.

Hero to Hero was founded in 2003 by Lakewood resident, Liz Jackson, and has grown into a national program. The non-political group gathers t-shirts from firefighters, law enforcement officers and first responders across America and Canada, and then ships them to our deployed military troops. This year, more than 5,500 shirts have been collected and sent to troops as a morale builder and to say thanks to all who are bravely risking their lives in defense of our country.
