This holiday season, the 19th annual Tacoma Firefighters’ Christmas Project will donate more than $12,000 in food, clothing, and gifts to 130 Tacoma children and their families. Santa and his firefighter helpers, riding a red fire engine and Medic One Unit, will make deliveries from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22.
The Tacoma School District’s Head Start Program and the YWCA Women’s Shelter provided names of local children and their families for the project.
Many individuals and organizations have contributed to the annual giving event, including: active and retired Tacoma firefighters, Tacoma Professional Firefighters Local #31, the Tacoma Fire Department and the office of the Pierce County Council.
The annual Firefighters’ Christmas Project began in 1989 under the direction of Lieutenant Jim Lee and Firefighter Ron Ernst.
