Tacoma Community College (TCC) board member contributions to the TCC Foundations Invest In Your Future capital and endowment campaign now total $668,800.
The board division portion of the campaign concludes this month and involves past and present members of the TCC Board of Trustees and TCC Foundation Board of Directors, as well as past and present TCC presidents.
Wendy Phillips is the board division solicitation chair. Phillips is a former TCC student, instructor and TCC Foundation Board chair; a TCC honorary degree recipient; and a Gig Harbor resident.
Ive seen the college from the inside out and can think of no better place to invest, Phillips said. An investment in TCC enables students to own their future. It helps many students escape from poverty, and it significantly strengthens the fabric of our community by providing access to quality higher education for all our citizens.
Board division vice chairs are Dave Edwards, Frank Garratt, Jeanette and Ron Lunceford, and Brad Bannon. Team members are Fred Whang, Marilyn Walton, Laurie Jinkins, John Lantz, Jim Loomis, David Sarno, Marlene Bosanko, Joe Kosai, Bill and Norma Honeysett, Ron Powers, Stephanie Flagg-Rhett, Pamela Lewis-Bridges, Chris Algeo, Jennifer Durham, Jim Boulanger and Dennis Fulton.
The Invest In Your Future campaign is focused around three goals: enhancing access to higher education, strengthening academic programs and funding capital improvements.
Campaign initiatives include raising funds for student scholarships and grants; study abroad; employee leadership development; equipment for health care training programs; a Center for Ethical Development; construction of a new TCC Childrens Center (phase one); Learning Resource Center improvements; an Information Commons (open computer lab); and various campus beautification projects, including a Japanese Garden.
The TCC Foundation now enters the public phase of the campaign. Funds raised through the Invest In Your Future campaign will be administered by the TCC Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that accepts and administers private gifts on behalf of the college. Gifts to the TCC Foundation benefit college programs and activities not funded through state operating and capital budgets.
The Invest In Your Future campaign is the most ambitious fundraising effort in the colleges 40-year history. TCC has served more than 400,000 individuals since 1965.
