Each night between Mon., April 30 and Fri., May 4, crews working for design-builder Tacoma Narrows Constructors will reduce westbound State Route 16 to one lane on the west side of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The single westbound SR 16 lane will be closed at 9 p.m. each night and will reopen by 7 a.m. each following morning. During the closure, crews will install traffic detection loops into the roadway pavement.
Traffic detection loops are installed throughout the states highways. They are used by WSDOT to gather data on traffic volumes and speeds. WSDOT in turn uses the data to represent traffic conditions on WSDOTs traffic flow web pages so the public can access the information.
