TNB traffic shift begins June 12

Weather permitting, from 7 p.m. Monday, June 12, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, crews working for design-builder Tacoma Narrows Constructors will reduce eastbound State Route 16 to one lane near 36th Street NW west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. During those hours they will also close the eastbound SR 16 exit and on-ramp at 36th Street NW.

The closures will allow crews to switch both eastbound SR 16 lanes onto their permanent eastbound alignment between 36th Street NW and the bridge. While the switch is underway, one eastbound lane will remain open for use. Motorists wanting to exit eastbound SR 16 near the bridge should use the Olympic Drive NE exit.

Once this traffic shift is complete, crews will begin work on the permanent eastbound and westbound lanes that will then be in the highway median.

This traffic shift will introduce a temporary curve into the eastbound roadway alignment as the permanent eastbound lanes are redirected onto the existing bridge. Motorists are reminded to abide by the 45 mile-per-hour speed limit that is in place throughout the Tacoma Narrows Bridge construction zone.

Any inclement weather conditions between now and Monday could affect paving and modify the schedule for the lane closures and traffic shift.
