TV Tacoma - the City’s 24-hour government information channel - will celebrate 25 years of programming on Jan. 24. The station, which broadcasted its first Tacoma City Council meeting in 1984, has evolved from its simple beginnings into an award-winning station which produces over 22 hours of original programming and meeting coverage each month.
Over the past 25 years, TV Tacoma and staff have been recognized numerous times as a station with quality work and an ongoing commitment to the community. This year alone, the station took home six national programming awards at the 23rd annual National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) video awards in Atlanta, Ga.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the City Council will present a proclamation on Jan. 20 at the Council meeting declaring Jan. 24 as TV Tacoma Day, and on Jan. 22 the station will broadcast a LIVE special presentation on “CityLine” featuring the history of programs such as CityLine, Across the Fence and Inside Tacoma. Additional anniversary programming is currently in production and will also reflect back on the past 25 years.
