Twelve anchor organizations funded by Tacoma Arts Commission

The Tacoma Arts Commission recently announced $265,000 in funding recommendations to support the programming of 12 Anchor Fund organizations in Tacoma.

The biennial Anchor Fund program was established by the Tacoma Arts Commission in 1995 to provide financial support for cultural services to major not-for-profit arts organizations located in Tacoma. These community-based arts organizations significantly improve the quality of life for the citizens of Tacoma by offering work of exceptionally high quality and exhibit a solid history of organizational and financial stability.
“These organizations are some of the best in the nation, not just in the quality of their work, but in the special efforts they provide to connect with the school age population of our town,” said Phillip Hill, Tacoma Arts Commission chair. “All of these institutions have discovered ways to extend their walls out into our community and in many ways, globally. Every time we fund them, I am overwhelmed with what they do.”

Organizations funded through the 2007–2008 Anchor Fund are Acoustic Sound, Children’s Museum of Tacoma, Grand Cinema, Museum of Glass, Northwest Sinfonietta, Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma Little Theatre, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Tacoma Opera, Tacoma Philharmonic, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, and Tacoma Youth Symphony Association.

The Anchor Fund program is one of three funding programs administered by the Tacoma Arts Commission. For more information about these programs, visit http://www.tacomaculture.org/arts/funding.asp .
