    The University of Washington Tacoma received the AMOCAT Arts Award (Arts Parton) for its contribution to the local arts community. A memorial along the Prairie Line Trail on the UW Tacoma campus commemorates the former Japanese Language School, and features a bronze sculpture by Gerard Tsutakawa, as well as an interpretive plaque that tells the story of the school and its community.
