More than 300 Latino high school students in grades 9-11 will converge on the University of Washington Tacoma campus March 23, for the 3rd annual Centro Latino Education Summit. The event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is designed to encourage young Latinos from Pierce County to begin planning for post-secondary education.
Through workshops and a college fair, students will learn about college and how to begin making preparations now for further education. In addition, they will have access to admission representatives from 20 colleges and universities in the state, including UW Tacoma.
Antonio Ginatta, executive policy advisor for Gov. Christine Gregoire, will provide the keynote speech. Ginatta previously served as the executive director of the Washington State Commission on Hispanic Affairs, as well as director of the Latino Vote Project.
Sponsored by Centro Latino in Tacoma, this summit is being hosted for the first time by UW Tacoma.
