In the wake of Russell Investments’ departure, Tacoma city officials are considering the effects the loss of the financial services giant will have on economic development in the city. Though the departure leaves an anxious void, some view it as an opportunity to diverge from old ways of cultivating business and set a new course to lead in the green economy.
With this potential in mind, the University of Washington Tacoma and the city of Tacoma will co-host an open public forum, “Envisioning Tacoma as a Leader in the New Green Economy.” Panelists will explore ways to implement developing technologies and sustainability into Tacoma’s plans for economic development, thus placing the city at the forefront of innovation for the green economy.
The panelists represent government and corporate leaders of sustainability in the region. Associate Professor Jim Gawel, faculty coordinator of the UW Tacoma Environmental program, will moderate the discussion.
The forum will be held on April 2, at 6 p.m., in Philip Hall on the University of Washington Tacoma campus. A light reception will follow. The public is invited to attend, free of charge, but registration is required. To register, visit https://catalysttools.washington.edu/webq/survey/bjaiteh/97357 .
