The City Council needs five citizens to help administer a program that recognizes people who live in Tacoma for their volunteer service.
The 11-member Citizens Recognition Committee develops the nomination tools and selection criteria, in addition to selecting the winners, for the City of Destiny Awards.
For the past 16 years, the City Council has hosted the ceremony each spring.
The five open positions-to be filled by Tacoma residents-represent the areas of labor, three neighborhoods and education.
The City Council will review all applications and select five committee members, who will begin serving Sept. 1, 2002. The successful applicants will serve until Aug. 31, 2005.
The Citizens Recognition Committee meets at 4 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.
Interested citizens can contact the Community Relations Office at 591-5790 for more information. The Mayor’s Office will accept applications through Aug. 7. To apply, contact Carol Krona, Mayor/Council Office, Room 1200, Municipal Building, 747 Market St., Tacoma 98402, 253/591-5100.
